Eva-9 is awake

Based on user feedback and our own testing, we've been making changes to Eva and we would like to share where we are. Eva-9 (she's the ninth prototype) is now awake and ready to go through long hours of repeatability, precision and payload testing.

Eva-9 is now 3x stronger and 4x more accurate than Eva-8. If our calculations are correct, she should be able to lift 650gms to 900gms based on outreach, and be repeatable down to 0.25 mm. In the process, Eva-9 has put on some weight, and weighs in at 2.2kgs. However, don't take our word for it, as we plan to spend the next weeks testing and confirming these numbers.

We believe these improvements open her to a wider range of usecases not possible with Eva-8 and if all goes according to plan we should be able to offer Eva to you within a price range of $2500 - $3500.

We are iterating quite quickly on Eva, and this means we sometimes change things including the above numbers. However, we're getting close to finalizing them so stay tuned for more!

Upcoming Upgrade

we've been putting Eva through her paces with long hours and some tough moves. As a result, she'll soon be getting an upgrade with more strength & precision. Stay tuned..

Extending choreoGraph

For all the tinkerers, makers or just those of you with a more technical bent out there, we feel you.... therefore we're making choreoGraph extendable by providing plugins and API access for the following platforms.

Introducing choreoGraph

Here at Automata we really think using a robot should be a simple task. Apart from designing Eva to be friendly and lightweight, we also understand that her software has to be as intuitive and as easy to use as possible. choreoGraph (beta), our app that (literally!) choreographs Eva, is as simple as using a standard smartphone app. If you can play Angry Birds (or post a photo to Instagram) you can control your Eva!

And for an even simpler and quicker way for choreoGraphing Eva, you can physically guide and record her poses and she'll play them back on command.

choreoGraph will ship with Eva and we will continue to add and improve ways to work with her, and as usual we'll keep you posted right here on the blog.

Eva's first steps

We moved into a new space a couple of weeks ago, and have settled in so now we can start posting updates. Below are a couple of videos showing what we've been upto: we're teaching her to move on pre-programmed paths and do so gracefully, i.e. slow down/speed up around bends and sharp turns: robotics 101 really.

Introducing Eva

Introducing Eva, Automata's first light weight, low-cost & easy to use robotic arm. She's about as big as an adult human arm, most of her components and shell are 3d-printed on consumer grade 3d printers, and she will be available to the public by the end of Summer 2015.

This is our blog, and we'll be posting what we're up to right here. If you'd like to know more, get in touch.
